What We Do
Guardianship Services for Adults in LaPorte and Porter Counties

Guardianship is a serious legal proceeding in which a court appoints another party or organization to make decisions for an adult who is unable to do so independently due to disability, dementia, traumatic brain injury, or other circumstances.
Indiana Guardianship Services, Inc. serves as a court-appointed guardian for adults, advocating for their wishes and best interests while ensuring decisions are made with dignity, fairness, and respect for individual autonomy. Our role is not to replace an individual’s voice, but to support decision-making in the least restrictive manner possible, using guardianship only to the extent necessary and appropriate. Indiana Guardianship Services, Inc. participates in Indiana’s Volunteer Advocates for Seniors and Incapacitated Adults (VASIA) program, established under Indiana Code §§ 29-3-8.5-1 et seq. The VASIA program exists to ensure that vulnerable adults who lack appropriate decision-makers are not left without protection, advocacy, or oversight.
Through this program, IGS serves as guardian of last resort, appointed by the court to support adults who have been legally determined to be incapacitated under Indiana law. To learn more about VASIA and eligibility, click here.
